Classic film- bUZZ’s top picks

I am sure by now the readership of bUZZ will know I am a veracious lover of film. Action, horror, espionage, drama you name it I am into it.

But when it comes to classic film I can be a tad picky. I don’t necessarily follow the conventions when it comes to popular choices for the classics.

However I also feel I don’t manage to cram enough classic cinema into my hard worked Blu-Ray player. But when I am watching a classic, here are my top picks in classic film.

Let me know in the comments if you have seen them, or drop a few suggestions of your own favourites.

To start with, my all time classic favourite, Goodfellas.

1. Goodfellas

De Niro before he became comedy buzz kill Jack Burns in Meet the Fockers (the less said about that theEssential-Film-Goodfellas. better).

Goodfellas is an outstanding bit of cinema from the gritty visionary and mastermind himself, Martin Scorcese. It stars Joe Pesci in possibly his toughest and meanest roll. He steals a considerable chunk of the limelight.

It chronicles the meteoric rise and fall of a gangster played by Ray Liotta (before he started starring in anything made…ever) and will sell you the stolen American dream and then have you returning it quicker than you wished for it all in the space of 2 and a half hours.

The film is violent, hard hitting and all round phenomenal. A true classic in every sense of the word.

2. American Beauty

Sam Mendes, Kevin Spacey and middle aged man in revolt. What is there not to love?MV5BMjM4NTI5NzYyNV5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTgwNTkxNTYxMTE@__V1_SX640_SY720_

American Beauty is one of my all time favourite films. The acting from everybody is stunning, Wes Bentley is intrinsic as Ricky Fitz, a truly iconic screen figure for me.

The story is funny, hilarious at times, but also deeply moving.

It follows one man (Spacey) on a journey of self discovery and his decent into drugs and debauchery. It is a truly wonderful film.

3. Midnight Run

Another De Niro flic makes it way onto my list.511R4ZWM06L

But Midnight Run is quite simply the funniest film ever made, in my opinion of course. But seriously it is hilarious.

I challenge you to sit five minutes through it without laughing, it is that funny!

The story follows a down on his luck ex cop turned bounty hunter tasked with bringing in an accountant turned con man. It is a laugh a minute watching his struggle to bring his prize in cross country.

A true comedy classic well worth hunting out on Amazon.

4. Dances with Wolves

Kevin Costner’s first stint in the directors chair and what an epic he produced.dances-with-wolves

The story is heartfelt and informative. You get a real sense that you are watching a classic film when taking in Dances with Wolves.

The story follows a Civil War soldier posted to an outpost on the frontier in America which does not live up to his expectations. He does however come into contact with a group of Apache Indians who assimilate him into their way of life.

Another star of the show is a lone wolf, named White Socks on account of his snow white feet.

Dances with Wolves is a truly epic film in both scale and substance. A delightful way to chase away a Sunday afternoon.

So there you have it, some of buzz’s favourite classic films. Remember to check back to bUZZ for all of your film and entertainment needs.
